Let's Talk About Pilates

Pilates is a whole body exercise that has numerous benefits, from injury prevention to improved flexibility, to better sleep and increased mood. The benefits overlap and are the result of the influence and connection of the whole body.

The Pilates reformer is the most popular tool in the Pilates tool bag. It’s a sleek pulley system consisting of a sliding carriage and springs with varying degrees of tension.

There are a variety of reformer exercises suitable for beginners to advanced fitness professionals (over 600 unique exercises), and reformer work may be better for rehabilitating and preventing injuries.

The reformer is an adaptable machine full of variety that is perfect for beginners, challenging for the avid fitness enthusiast, and low impact, perfect for those recovering from an injury or needing post-rehab/ongoing workouts to recover from injury.

The reformer can build muscular endurance efficiently in a non-weight bearing manner, making it more comfortable for the joints. A 2016 study concluded that Pilates equipment has an edge over mat exercises in regards to injury rehabilitation.

Meet The MVP's

Priscilla Stocking

Pri_4

Priscilla has always had a passion for helping people, and this passion originally lead to a career in physical therapy. Priscilla graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais in Brazil in 2010 with a Bachelor’s in Physical Therapy. After graduation, she started a physical therapy practice working in the same teaching clinic she interned at for the university.

Priscilla directly worked with spine and shoulder orthopedic surgeons, cardiologists, rheumatologists, and gynecologists, for over 10 years helping their patients through the post-surgery rehabilitation process, employing specialized physical therapy techniques. In this time, Priscilla found Pilates to be an integral and necessary tool for physical therapy. She received her certification for Pilates instruction in 2011 from Escola Brasileira de Pilates, in Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Barrel, and Chair styles of Pilates.

She then worked with multiple physical therapists and Pilates instructors to develop unique diagnostic and treatment strategies that drastically accelerated her patients recovery. She also worked with patients needing intensive care in Brazil’s largest hospital, Unimed.

Through the use of Pilates as a tool to enhance her physical therapy practice, Priscilla realized her true passion for Pilates. Upon migrating to the United States, she decided to pursue Pilates as her full time career, and found MVP.
